A quiet Tuesday and a 30% discount: a short story
An illustrative story, built from a situation many Bali GMs will recognise.
It is a Tuesday in late October. The GM of a 40-room hotel looks at the next two weeks: occupancy is lower than she would like. A nearby hotel has just cut its rate.
The instinct: match it, maybe go deeper. A 30% discount across all dates, just to fill rooms.
Instead, she checks three things first:
• Pickup: weekends are still picking up steadily. Only three weekdays are flat.
• Compset: the competitor that cut its rate has a very different product.
• Year-end: some of the 31 December bookings went at a standard rate, below where they should be.
So she does something smaller: a modest adjustment on the three flat weekdays only, no change on weekends, and a higher rate for the remaining New Year rooms.
No dramatic decision. Just the right dates, in small steps.
The lesson: most pricing mistakes are not about bad analysis. They are about making a big decision on one quiet afternoon instead of small decisions every day.
Revbot makes those small decisions daily, within the rules your hotel sets. See it on a demo hotel with realistic data: free 7-day demo at revbot.id.
